Do not leave those as they are! Chrome/ polished wipers? Might as well go and buy a Morris Marina! Worst idea ever.

Body colour wiper arms are nasty too.

Relax - satin black, like my window and roof trims they will be, however if my car was black they'd be body colour ;).

Having bought myself some more alcantara for little bits, i set to and covered the side interior trims above the doors.

When i first got the car the vinyl that was on them was very poor, think it was a shrinkage problem, so i got my upholsterer friends to quickly cover them and to be fair they've been ok for many years but these now much better and matching .

I don't expect you to remember but in post 248 i fit, to put me on, a matching console armrest and the two gaitors. When i was at the NEC someone put a seed in my head that i'd want the armrest in the same alcantara as everything else and yes that man was correct.

I stripped my armrest back a few days ago and noticed it was cracked, therefore weak, a visit to the scrap yard to my favourite breaker was my remit today and i got this in sexy tweed but mint !!

Hard to miss the two brackets, the smaller one is for a SWB and the larger one for a LWB, until today i didn't know there was a difference.

DSC05532.jpg

I decided in my wisdom to apply some extra foam, very thin i know, so the difference is subtle, in my quest to be different i proceeded, here it is loosely glued in place.

The charcoal super suede then gets applied, it drags and holds everything in place, secured on the underside .

DSC05539.jpg

Here it is loosely fit just to show, very nice it is to :thumbup1:.

Now out of the car and showing the bracket holding the lid up perfectly. The reason it's off is because a certain Great Mondo will be doing me the two gaitors in my supplied matching fabric, the red stitching ones are being binned off, the new ones will have some silver stitching which will match with the door card armrests he kindly did for me, the gear knob and steering wheel will be done in a similar style .

Whats that gismo mounted in the console?

It's the controller for the cd multi changer Graham, doesn't work or rather it's not wired up to anything, all i've done is wire it up to the light circuit, so that it's buttons illuminate, it's quite a rare piece to have although pretty useless sadly ;).

No, no and NO!!

What are you going to put on that then? An old rusty oil drum? A Steptoe and Son suitcase? A shitty old bike....or nothing?

Haha, that my friend, will have to remain a surprise

Well here are the part numbers:

G3800-40P00 Rack base set

Thanks Andrew, not too worried about those particular extras though

The mind boggles!

Whilst I hate having a bike in the car, scratches the interior, racks scares me. The thought of a bike coming off and bouncing down the road behind you, eeek! F that. It's bad enough bouncing around in the back of pic up going up the hill. You'd be surprised how many bikes fit in a Twin cab landie.

Another improvement in my eyes, this is a different radio console i've had for a while now and when clean is in very good condition, so over the last few days i have migrated over and bonded in the GReddy controllers from my previous console.

The steel plate was fitted previously in its natural silver colour, i did think about doing it in black but decided on my tried and trusted metallic grey paint and then lacquered :cool3:.

My interior is either red or blue so i did contemplate lighting up the 'build' with a red el sheet but decided to stick with the blue......matches better imo.

Received my new center gear console today and so sees me putting it all back together, with it i bought a new cig lighter escutcheon....25339-89982, they are less than a tenner and worth every penny, like new now, please see the test fit below.

I have also made sure all the oem wiring is as it should be, i have fit white here and in the ashtray because white gives off the most light as opposed to blue or red.

  • 2 weeks later...

So with my above purchase of a brand new console, i do not want to drill any holes near the gear stick for an alarm led or for a fog light switch like i had previously.

Couple that with my 'a' pillar gauges which were never seated correctly or level to the eye and there were far too many 'added' on wires over the years, 5 to a grounding point for instance .

All now sorted over several days, the gauge trim now as a concealed screw in it's centre as the whole assembly sagged, the gauges are individually siliconed in so cannot move and are square, far less wiring is going on, managed to make some room and get the relocated fog light switch at the very top seated nice and flush and finally in my wisdom i've now got both my blue immobilizer led and the red alarm one at the very bottom shining clearly through the glass, much happier now with this area.

Tell you these vents are a pig to fit, the larger one especially having to feed it at the back of the radio, anyway it's in now and bolted up, it does need a plastic fastener to attach it to the narrower (hidden) foot vent one, this holds it all in position and therefore the end piece with the foam fits snugly and square.

The small 'n' shaped vent coming off to the left hand side of the pic was not factory fit on my series 4, (i fit the l/h one a while back) whether this is a series thing or the fact i have manual aircon i do not know but another upgrade from a series 1 :).

How about this upgrade to keep your bits cool Andy?

Yes i am aware of those, it's one of the things i look for when i visit a breaker, take it the large duct's bulge needs cutting out and another length is required or does it just marry up perhaps with foam as the gasket ?

And i notice the 2 x screws which are the 10mm socket type are wrong......have i got that correct, they should be like the radio console screws with the flange washer?

I thought you were doing away with the Bangkok disco lights?

It's ambient lighting :tt2:.

I still have a few bits here and there but it's been quite refreshing throwing out stuff i have done over the years, i put the instrument cluster back in yesterday and thought how tidy that all area is, to what it once was like with wires all over the place :nono:.
